Black Men United – “Suited Up for Solidarity” March
October 10, 2020 @ 2:00 pm - 6:00 pm
InterFaith Works, in collaboration with Black Men United, is organizing a march of men, young and old of the African diaspora, who will assemble at 1 p.m. Saturday, October 10 at Syracuse City Hall, 233 E. Washington St., in a demonstration of support for their communities and shifting negative attitudes about black men.
Beginning at 2 p.m. at City Hall, the march will proceed through the streets of downtown Syracuse past City Hall Commons, Syracuse Police Department headquarters, Onondaga County Justice Center and end at the steps of the Onondaga County Courthouse for a rally. Mark Muhammad, a minister with the Nation of Islam and Vice President of the Syracuse Board of Education, will serve as keynote speaker at the rally. Syracuse Mayor Ben Walsh and Deputy Mayor Sharon Owens are also expected to speak during the rally.
The organizers are inviting men and women of all races to greet the marchers in a show of solidarity in their support and encouragement of Black men taking a stand for their communities. In addition to the marchers, spectators and volunteers interested in helping pass out food and water, offering words of encouragement and support and assisting with logistics on the day are asked to register online.
InterFaith Works is one of 25 supporting organizations supporting the social-distanced march and rally that include a wide-ranging coalition of community groups, companies, public officials and local governmental entities.
