Peace in the Midst: World Day of Prayer
September 13, 2017 - September 14, 2017
We know peace is indeed possible. It may appear otherwise in the United States and around the world. InterFaith Works mission statement rings true for all of us; “InterFaith Works of Central New York, through education, service and dialogue, affirms the dignity of each person and every faith community and works to create relationships and understanding among us.”
This is also true for Unity of Syracuse. They believe peace begins with each of us. They honor and respect the many paths to God. They believe prayer unites us because all Spiritual communities have a form of prayer we practice.
InterFaith Works and Unity of Syracuse saw it appropriate to come together to pray for peace in our community, state, nation and the world. We are inviting all faith communities to participate in two days of events with a central focus on prayer. There will be a Prayer for Peace Service the first day and a 12- hour Silent Prayer Vigil the second day where anyone can sign up for 30 minutes slots from 6am-6pm.
This year marks the 24th annual Unity World Day of Prayer. The theme of this prayer event is “Peace in the Midst.” This year’s affirmation is “I am peace in the midst of all matters!”
“World Day of Prayer gives us an opportunity to come together in celebration of our oneness with God, each other, and our world. Through prayer we foster peace and wholeness in our community and in our individual lives,” said Reverend Edith Washington-Woods, Senior Minister at Unity of Syracuse.
We also invite clergy to participate in this two-day event especially in the Interfaith Prayer Service for Peace, at 6pm on Wednesday September 13th. We will begin with a processional of clergy. We request clergy to wear their ceremonial attire. After the processional, there will be three-minute prayers for peace from a wide variety of clergy giving prayers from their communities. Please let us know by 4pm Friday, September 8th if you want to participate in the processional and/or to say a prayer for peace.
After the service, we will have a finger food reception. We are asking all Spiritual communities to bring a finger food that represent your uniqueness.
All of this will be occurring at Unity of Syracuse, 300 W. Seneca Turnpike., Syracuse, NY. 13207
Peace and Blessings,
